Chinese or Imperial Guardian Lions are a traditional Chinese architectural ornament.

Typically made of stone, they are also known as stone lions or shishi. They are known in colloquial English as lion dogs or foo dogs. The concept originated and became popular through Chinese Buddhism.

They are symbolic and protective statues, drawn in pairs: a female and a male. The female represents the yin and symbolically protects the people living in the house, while the male statue represents the yang and protects the structure itself.
